I am the only gripe in Rhode Island

I was the "only gripe" to one blogger in Rhode Island. The photo and caption is from their blog, too.
"My ONLY GRIPE was in Herod, played by Mark Baratelli as a FLAMING gay man, which was HILARIOUS, believe me. I was in tears. But I feel like he wasn’t paying enough attention to his lines–he was going more for comedy rather than truly emoting what he was saying, and some of the understanding of the song was lost."
Yeah I agree.

What are the credentials of the blogger, that we know of so far?
Cast ye not pearls before swine...

Don't believe everything you read...

I take all comments, good and bad.

Hey Mark,
We saw the show three times so far (Twice in New Haven and once in Jersey). In my opinion, in addition to Herod's effeminate side, there is also a very cruel and sinister side which is hidden behind that effeminacy. Especially starting with the line "Hey! Aren't you scared of me Christ?" you capture that amazingly well. Especially your New Haven performances were amazing.

Hey thanks Gokay. I admit, I don't fully "get" the song, but I do the best I can. I find it hard to make that transition from teasing and taunting to anger, honestly. And that is important: honestly. If I am not feeling the anger for real, then I just don't get angry. I maintain the sarcasm. Or whatever it is I am doing during that performance. That differs night to night, sometimes. (Thank God I have that room to breath and switch it up!)

Do you feel you don't " get " the song because you don't eat fried twinkies?

You nailed it, Summer. :)

When I first read it, I thought it said "grape" instead of "gripe" which made me think they were making fun of your costume, and that's mean.

Hello Mr. Baratelli. Thanks for taking my opinion professionally--I know many people who would have thrown a hissy fit at any sign of criticism. When I said your performance was my only gripe I did not mean, of course, that your performance was bad, and I didn't mean it in an "Oh my GOD he RUINED THE PRODUCTION" way. Because I didn't. At all. Trust me.

Like I said, I found your performance greatly enjoyable.

I hope you know that no offense was meant, and that was merely the opinion of one lowly audience member.

Best wishes :D

Oh yeah I am all about criticism. Bring it on. I learn from it and do not take anything personally. For example, on my reviews page for this show, I post the good and the bad reviews.
